At Your Priority 1 Business Services , we work with Form 5 and Form 6 students to help them develop clarity and increased success with one of the most important aspects of their life – their career choice which in turn, leads to a more informed decision about the course of study at the tertiary level.
Most senior students enrol in tertiary education fields of study without a systematic approach. This can lead to frustration when they graduate and an unsuitable career path for most of their life. We tackle this problem in a systematic way that produces very good results in four or less coaching sessions.
Below are the simple steps that we use in this process of helping the student discover their ideal career.
We assign the student three Psychometric assessments to complete at our Online Assessment Centre, namely, (i) the “Vocational Style & Career Assessment for Senior Students of the Caribbean (VoSCA – SU)”, (ii) the “Values Profile Assessment (VaPro – R4)”, and (iii) the “Multidimensional Emotional IQ Assessment (MEIQ – R9)”.
The reports from the above assessments are printed, and the student’s Career Coaching sessions are scheduled.
The VoSCA – SU assessment produces a report that lists the interests, intelligence types, values, and workstyles of the student in descending order of scores, and then lists ten to twenty careers that matches the student’s strengths. These careers are retrieved from the most up-to-date US Department of Labour’s O*Net career database of over 1,500 distinct careers! The report is then used in the career coaching relationship as a starting point for the student’s self-discovery regarding their career path and subsequent choice of tertiary education.
The VaPro – R4 report also provides the student with insight into their top work value, top core value and their top personal value. The top work value points to recommended career categories which can then be cross-referenced with the careers recommended for the student by the first assessment, the VoSCA – SU. This further narrows down the student’s possible careers.
The progress and notes for each session as well as the Psychometric assessments in the form of PDFs are recorded in our company’s private password-protected database. Most importantly, only the student and the coach have access to it, ensuring the utmost confidentiality.
An action plan is agreed upon at the end of each session and also recorded at the end of the notes for that session. The student can review the coach’s notes from each session and can add their own notes as well as progress made on the action plan. We always follow up with the student at the start of each session to see what progress was made on the action plan from the last session, and to keep things flowing in a positive direction until their final goal is achieved.
